Once upon a time in West Kalimantan, there was a Kingdom of Amuntai .The kingdom of amuntai was ruled by two kings, the anointed ones. They’re King Patmaraja and his younger brother , King Sukmaraga. These two kings and rule justly, appreciate each other , as well as getting along. There never existed discord among them.
One day, King Sukmaraga talked about his wife’s pregnancy. King Patmaraga was happy, but sad at the same time. He also wished to have children. King Patmaraga prayed to Lord to be also given children.
After
nine months, she gave birth twin sons. The feast was held, The Kingdom of Amuntai
rejoiced it. King Patmaraga was also happy for the twin nephews. But in the
heart, he was very sad. He came back praying to the Lord to have children. Must
not twins, a girl he would be very grateful.
Day by day, his wish didn’t come true. King Patmaraga and the queen surrendered. One day, King Patmaraga took her a walk. They visited a great temple located outside Amuntai Kingdom. Accompanied by an adviser, Datuk Pujung, and some guards to escort.
While crossing a river , King Patmaraga saw some floating river foam. Right on it, there was a beautiful little baby. He was really happy , and asking his wife, “Is this the answer of our prayers?” Then he excitedly commanded Datuk pujung to take the baby.
Datuk Pujung stepped into the river trying to reach out the baby. But every time he tried, the foam diverged as if the baby didn’t want him to hold. Everybody was shocked and wondered. Therefore, the baby didn’t cry but spoke. She said, “You can not take me unless there are 40 women to pick me up. And make me a beautiful quilt to keep my body warm, a quilt that is woven for a half day in time.”
King Patmaraga immediately ruled Datuk Pujung to go back to the palace , and collect 40 women. He held a competition of making a beautiful quilt for the baby that must be done in a half day. For those who could, would be appointed as the baby sitter of the palace. They began to compete, they used best thread.
Half
day had passed, no one finished weaving a quilt. Datuk Pujung was desperate.
But there was suddenly a woman came to him .She handed over a sheet of a quilt
and folded . He opened the folded quilt and checked it. “This is neat. The color
is also beautiful”, he was amazed. He
asked that lady’s name. Her name is Queen Kuripan . He declared this Queen Kuripan
to be the baby sitter in the palace.
Datuk pujung , Queen Kuripan , and 40 women set out to the kingdom and gave it to the king. Slow down the king went into the river accompanied 40 women behind him .Carefully , the king pulled out the river foam. Queen Kuripan handed over the quilt to the king. The king covered all over the baby’s body, held and cuddled her.
The baby was very beautiful . King Patmaraga showed her to his wife. The baby was named Putri Junjung Buih , because it was found floating and upheld ‘Junjung’ by the river foam ‘Buih’ . The baby smiled , as if she agreed with the king . King Patmaraga and wife returned to the palace.
King
Sukmaraga welcomed the arrival of Putri Junjung Buih with pleasure .Now , the
two kings had children. There was no longer sadness in their hearts . Both of
them , continued leading and ruling the Kingdom of Amuntai happily.
